Podcast Activity #3

Reflection on podcasting

I found the podcast assignment to be a neat assignment. We were required to pick a song from a list and then record a brief narration for the song. o publish it, we needed to put the song and narration together in Windows Movie Maker, a program that I do not work well with. Well, it all seemed pretty easy. That is, until I tried to make it more complicated. Trying to be creative, I was hoping to play the song in the background as my narration read. This task was never accomplished, and I spent most of the class trying to do so. With that, though the assignment was neat, I also found it frustrating.

Podcasting does have its place. To me it’s sort of like a news outlet for someone, or a radio broadcast. I think that teachers could use this for briefing of students or teachers outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, it might be interesting to have students read their essays or papers and set them into podcast. When reading we often assume voices or genders of the writers. It would be nice to hear the words written actually being spoken by the person that wrote them. Sort of like a book on tape. Easy listening. Overall, I did enjoy becoming frustrated with the podcast and thinks it could be a great tool to use in the classroom.
